Most active volcano
The Hawaiian Kilauea volcano is the most active volcano in world.  It has been constantly erupting ever since 1983, and every second 5 m3 of lava thrusts out of its crater.

Most deadly earthquake
On February 2, 1556, China was shook by an earthquake that is estimated to have killed around 830,000 people.  More recently, on July 28, 1976, another earthquake in China killed several hundred thousand people.

Most deadly volcanic eruption
During the eruption of the Tambora volcano at Sumbawa in Indonesia, which lasted from April 5 until April 10 in 1815, at least 92,000 people lost their lives.

Largest volcanic crater
The world's largest crater is Toba in northern Indonesia.  The crater covers 1,775 km2, making it large enough to accommodate a few Danish islands.  The last very explosive eruption took place 75,000 years ago, and the volcano is no longer active.

How many volcanoes are there?
The general estimate is that the earth is home to 1,511 active volcanoes.

The island of Iceland is the result of volcanic eruptions. Iceland has lots of volcanoes. The biggest one is the Hekla, which is 1,491 m high.

Biggest volcano in Europe
The biggest European volcano is found on Sicily in the Mediterranean.  The volcano Etna is 3,320 m tall and is still active.
